5 WAYS YOU CAN HELP THE PLANET IN 2010
It's a new year, and a new decade - and this will be the decade we decide the future. At the end of 2009 world leaders let us down at the UN climate summit in Copenhagen, and now it is up to the rest of us to force the change we need to see on the ground. Here are few things you can do to get started and help us make sure that this is the year we change our future.
1. OUTLAW DIRTY COAL
We're winning the campaign against new coal. Over the last year, together we have forced energy company E.on to shelve plans to build a new coal plant at Kingsnorth and the government's coal policy ruled out new unabated coal plants. But the policy is not enshrined in law and we have an opportunity to make sure new coal is ruled out - right now. The Energy Bill is passing through parliament and must ensure that we will not be locked into a high carbon energy future.
Please write to your MP today, this Bill will decide our energy future:

2. TELL WORLD LEADERS TO FINISH WHAT THEY STARTED
It's up to each and every one of us to let leaders know that in the coming months we will make sure they finish what they started in Copenhagen. We expected a fair, ambitious and legally binding treaty that would protect the climate. But leaders left without agreeing to the cuts in greenhouse gas emissions that science demands. Pressure from millions of people like you brought world leaders to the negotiating table, now we need your help again to make them finish the job.
Write to leaders - tell them failure is not an option:

3. RUN THE 2010 LONDON MARATHON
How far would you go to support Greenpeace? How about running 26.2 miles through the streets of London? We've got some places in the 2010 Virgin London Marathon. Now we need some keen supporters to fill them for us. The work we do is now more important than ever while world leaders fail to take positive action to halt climate change. We need all the money we can get to fund our urgent campaigns to get politicians and companies to take climate change seriously.

4. JOIN A LOCAL GREENPEACE GROUP
Our network of dedicated volunteers take Greenpeace campaigns to their local high streets, doing everything from running stalls at festivals to lobbying their MPs about climate change or supermarket managers about fish stocks. It's also the active supporters who help keep our field at Glastonbury running smoothly, and (for the more adventurous) get involved in direct actions.
If any of that appeals to you, or you'd just like to find out more, visit the site to find and join your local network:

5. HELP SUPPORT OUR WORK
Politicians talk, leaders act. Climate change is outstripping all predictions and its impact on our planet could be devastating. It is time for action now and your donation this year could help us fund direct action around the world to expose big business and governments who 'talk' about action on climate change but are blocking progress.

Thank you for your help.
PS. Four Greenpeace activists have been held without trial or bail since Dec 18th in a Copenhagen jail. These are the real leaders who were in Copenhagen and being held over charges relating to a protest at the Heads of State dinner. So far you've sent over 9000 letters to the Danish Embassy in London, but there is no word they will be released. Please write to the Danish Justice Minister asking for their immediate release on bail.
